I'm aware that the ISL83491 is intended for use as a full duplex transceiver. Can the hardware of the driver still support connection to a half-duplex transceiver, for example by shorting the driver and receiver cables?
Hi ,
I will check and get back to you
Thanks

Hi Nathan,
Yes the full-duplex ISL83491 can be configured for half-duplex transmission by connecting the driver outputs to the receiver inputs externally.
In the ISL83495, this connection is done internally.
Here’s page 3 of the data sheet (https://www.renesas.com/en/document/dst/isl83483-isl83485-isl83488-isl83490-isl83491-datasheet), showing the internal connections:
Remember to add the appropriate termination for the cable you’re using (typically 120 Ohms differential for RS-485 twisted pair) at the receiver(A-B on ISL83491)/combined(AY-BZ on ISL83485) input.
