Did you hear that Renesas was recently welcomed into the Energy@home association?

Energy@home is a non-profit organisation with the objective of the development and promotion of technologies and services for energy efficiency in the home based upon device to device communications.

As the world's number one supplier of microcontrollers, and a provider of award-winning smart grid communications technologies, Renesas is well placed to contribute to these aims, sharing many of the philosophies at the heart of Energy@home, which I paraphrase as follows:

  • Communication is a key enabler of energy efficiency but it will not be exploited fully while independent networks and devices do not interact with each other, and in many cases actively compete with each other.
  • A holistic approach to the home as an ecosystem of connected and interacting systems that intelligently coordinate themselves to optimise energy consumption.
  • Devices should be self aware, aware of how they are being used, be able to report back and react to changing conditions, including via smartphones wherever their user happens to be.
  • Enablement of technologies to support use-cases for micro power generation and consumption, increased awareness and motivating consumers to increase their own energy efficiency.
  • That these goals are only feasible through the collaboration of all stakeholders.

Energy@home aims to provide such a forum for collaboration, and Renesas is pleased to have joined to help further these aims together with its peers, customers, other industry associations and standards bodies.
