Hello!
We are looking forward to integrate the UPD720201K8-711-BAC-A with a Compute Module 4 (CM4) from the Raspberry Foundation. The CM4 has a single PCI-E 2.0 1x lane with the following limitations:
- No support for MSI-X
- No support for 64-bit PCI-E bus access
Do these limitations pose a problem for the UPD720201K8? In other words, can the UPD720201K8 work correctly with only 32-bit bus access and without MSI-X?
Thank you
Hi pylorak,
Were you able to confirm if the UPD720201K8 can work correctly with only 32-bit bus access and without MSI-X? If not yet, maybe Renesas Technical Support can confirm this to you. You can submit a ticket here: https://en-support.renesas.com/dashboard

Hi,
Even if it works with 32-bit bus, you need to have firmware for its Flash (MX25L5121EMC-20G is used in Renesas' recommended design) which is required on each boot. Unfortunaltely, the firmware for the flash is not available.
Technical support confirmed it should work, but we couldn't test it yet. We've stocked the parts but unfortunately our project priorities got reordered and so the design with the UPD720201 has not yet been manufactured. This is only a delay though and we'll pick it up again.
If you search for "UPD720201K8" on GitHub you'll find two repositories with firmware, though I can't vouch for if they are working, recent enough, or in the required binary format etc.
For an official binary, you should try this link: https://www.renesas.com/us/en/document/swr/pd720201-pd720202-firmware
Or contact your sales representative. I'd find it strange if Renesas sells you an IC but withholds the firmware necessary to use it at all.
Hi Electronicsnerd, where can you find recommended design? Thank you so much.
Hi juanmacc, search for "uPD720201 or uPD720202" on Renesas website. Under 'Download' section, you could find 'ET-D720201-0014 design kit'.
